Helichrysum is a flowering plant that is also known as 'Spiked Ginger Lily' and is native to India. This essential oil is then distilled from water and the resulting distillate is referred as Bergamot hydrosol. Kewra oil is extracted from the flowers of Kewra plant through the steam distillation method. Due to its awesome health benefits, it is widely used in the aromatherapy applications. The botanical name of Kewra plant is Pandmns Odoratissimus. For essential oil extraction all the collected flower samples were  carefully transported to the distillation units. The green spathe of inflorescence was removed completely manually to improve the essential oil yield. The oil extraction was carried out by Clevenger’s apparatus from all the flowers. The flowers are chopped in to small pieces and 1000g of flowers are placed in the flask to which 3000ml of distilled wa ter is added.

Kewra Floral Water is obtained from Kewra flower that grows as a branched shrub. The transparent liquid thus, obtained is in great demand owing to its therapeutic properties. The essence of the flower resembles with orange or rose. Kewra Floral Water is widely used in Indian curries, desserts, biryani, drinks and other items that are milk based. Due to its cooling effect, it can be used during summer season that provides calmness to the body.

Both male and female flowers are produced on different plants. The male plants are fragrant and white in color. These flowers are used for the extraction of 'Kewra attar', 'Kewra water', 'Kewra oil', etc.
